Madonna Falls in State Final in OT

The No.3 Wahama White Falcons are the 2012 West Virginia Class A statefootball champions, after an overtime gamble paid off, in a 43-42victory over No.4 Weirton Madonna.

It's the first state championship in school history, and ended Madonna's 10-game winning streak. The Blue Dons' lone loss came on September 1, the second week of the season, against Wheeling Central at Wheeling Island Stadium.

Wahama quarterback Trenton Gibbs scored a two-point conversion to give the White Falcons the walk-off victory.

After Madonna junior quarterback Ross Comis put his team ahead with his state-record fifth rushing touchdown, Wahama's Zack Walmsley scored a one-yard touchdown to make it 42-41 Madonna. After a timeout, and a penalty on the Blue Dons, Gibbs brought down the housewith his one-yard conversion.

Comis, the Samuel A.Mumley MVP for his team, finished 8-of-9 passing for 131 yards and a touchdown to Marcello Biondillo. Comis ran the ball 27 times for 152 yards.

The Blue Dons finish the season at 12-2. Wahama capped a 14-0 season.
