Madonna endorsed to challenge Maynard for State Senate
Griswold Selectman Theresa Madonna was made the unanimous choice of 18th Senatorial District Republicans to challenge state Sen. Andrew Maynard, D-Stonington, in Novembers election.
Madonna was selected during a Monday meeting at the Groton City Municipal Building. Also on Monday, Maynard confirmed that he will seek re-election.
Madonna is a lawyer with a practice based in Jewett City, a borough of Griswold. She serves on several boards including Thames River Academy and Martin House, both in Norwich. She has been a member of the Griswold Board of Education and ran unsuccessfully for first selectman.
Former congressman Rob Simmons and former state senator Cathy Cook were among the Republicans on hand at Mondays meeting to support Madonnas candidacy. The 18th District includes Griswold, Groton, Plainfield, Preston, North Stonington, Stonington, Sterling and Voluntown.
