First Look: Madonna's 'W.E.' trailer
After sparking controversy at film festivals from Venice to Toronto, Madonnas movie W.E. has a trailer online.
The flick focuses on Wallis Simpson, the ultimate scandalite of the 1930s, whose story was partially covered in Harvey Weinsteins hit The Kings Speech last year. This time, Simpson is played by Hollywood newcomer Andrea Riseborough, and James D'Arcy is King Edward VIII, (played in Kings Speech by Guy Pearce).
"W.E." also toggles to the tale of an unhappily married woman in 1990s New York (Abbie Cornish) whos eerily connected to Simpson as shes seduced by a another man (Oscar Isaac, from Drive).
The trailers titles read: "To love takes courage. To leave takes strength. But to love again takes everything." (Which might also sum up Madonnas relationship with Guy Ritchie.)
"W.E." was attacked by the UK press when it debuted in Venice, but got a more even response in Toronto, where rumors surfaced that Weinstein was trying to convince the Material Girl to snip a few minutes from the film before its release Dec. 9.
MADONNA'S "W.E." FACING SCISSORS
In the trailer, the cinematography and costuming look gorgeous, as does Riseborough and D'Arcy's "From Here To Eternity" moment on a beach. What do you think?
