Madonna in Manila? Talk gathers steam
MANILA, Philippines - Talk about Madonna finally bringing her spectacular showmanship to Manila may have been going on for as long as the pop icon became a global phenomenon in the mid 80s, but the new round of tattle going on online and at water cooler stations in the workplace ! around t hese parts--about a concert spectacle in 2012 - does suggest there could be more to this than wishful thinking among the queens in the advertising industry (closeted or otherwise) forever dreaming to get their Vogue on.
What is known is that actor and concert promoter Marvin Agustin has long expressed his desire to bring Madonna to Manila, the most recent such expression being in July, in an interview for a news program.
Of course, the pop icons current madness for coconut water--she has reportedly invested some $10 million in Vita Coco, a fast-rising healthy beverage brand featuring pre-packaged all-natural, 100-percent-pure coconut water cited by President PNoy himself in his September US trip--has only added to the rumor fire: Maybe shes making a concert stop in Manila also to check out a new source of raw materials for her new business venture?
Then again, doesnt Madonna have an army of men and women to do such grunt work?
OK, so maybe Madonna checking out coconut farms as a side trip to her supposed Manila concert may be more than a stretch, but perhaps the following is a little less so: according to an inside source, not only has financial giant Banco de Oro (BDO) supposedly expressed beyond-definite interest in becoming a massively major sponsor of the much talked-about 2012 concert of Madonna in Manila, but also is ostensibly just about ready to sign on the dotted line.
There was beyond great interest expressed in the Madonna during a recent meeting among executives behind BDOs consumer lending products, a source revealed.
And so, Madonna fans, get ready to swipe away your BDO credit cards for what can only be the priciest tickets ever to be issued for a concert around these parts. Then again, vogueing along with the Material Girl live and up close in Manila is nothing less than priceless.
