Madonna's stalker found guilty of resisting arrest

Madonna's stalker, Robert Linhart, was found guilty of resisting arrest, following a September 2010 incident.

Linhart was arrested outside the singer's Central Park apartment and charged with graffiti, resisting arrest, and possession of a homemade 7-1/2-inch ice pick. He was found writing love notes on wooden boards at the time.

A jury delivered their verdict on November 9 in New York. Linhart could face up to a year in jail on Rikers Island. Jurors told the New York Post that they felt it was fine for Linhart to express himself, but they said they believed police testimony that he resisted arrest by flailing his arms.

When Linhart was asked while he was leaving court whether he would attend Madonna's concerts at Madison Square Garden next week, he joked, "If she invites me."

"I won't stop until I actually meet Madonna," Linhart told police after his arrest. "I am going to go right back there and do it again."

In January, Linhart, a 62-year-old retired New York City firefighter, turned down a plea deal for his weapons possession charges stemming from the arrest, according to the New York Daily News.

Linhart, who appears to Tweet under the moniker @madonna_stalker, commented on the singer's support of Russian punk band Pussy Riot in August, writing, "Funny,I just heard Madonna say that she supports freedom of speech [sic]. I think that she should inform her security of her beliefs."

Another man, Robert Dewey Hoskins, was arrested in February, a week after he escaped from a mental hospital near Los Angeles. Authorities had said that Hoskins had "walked away" from the hospital on February 3 and had described him to be "highly psychotic" when he is off his medication and added that he has "very violent tendencies."

Hoskins was committed to facility last year after he was convicted of stalking and making criminal threats against Madonna in 1996. He had served a 10-year prison sentence for the crimes. Madonna had reluctantly testified against the man, who was shot by her personal security after he jumped the fence of her Hollywood Hills home.

Madonna is currently on tour, promoting her latest album, "MDNA." So far on her Tour the singer has been sued in Russia for supporting gay rights during a concert, booed in New Orleans for urging fans to vote for President Barack Obama, shown a swastika superimposed on French political leader's forehead and covered Lady Gaga in concert.
