Madonna's Super Bowl Setlist: Poll Results
With Sunday night's announcement that Madonna will be performing at the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show on Feb. 5, 2012, fans immediately began wondering what songs the Material Girl will perform on one of the biggest stages in rock and roll. Which classics should she play? What modern singles will sound best at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis?
It's Official: Madonna Playing Super Bowl Halftime Show
With two months to go until the answers are revealed, Billboard.com allowed fans to vote for Madonna's ultimate Super Bowl setlist on Monday, with each of her defining eras (early 1980s, mid/late 1980s, 1990s and 2000s) given one representative song. With thousands of vote cast in each category, which Madonna anthems made the cut? Check out the results below.
Early 1980s: "Holiday"
Fans thought this celebratory 1983 cut would be more in sync with the pumped-up Super Bowl atmosphere than other early Madonna hits like "Material Girl," "Into the Groove" and "Like a Virgin."
Mid/Late 1980s: "Express Yourself"
Barely squeaking by "Like a Prayer" to represent the era of (arguably) Madonna's most focused output, this empowering smash would be an upbeat set-closer on the Super stage.
1990s: "Vogue"
The title track to "Ray of Light" received hundreds of votes, but it couldn't capsize Madonna's stylish 1990 single that let her strike a pose and kick off a new decade of slickly produced, undeniable dance-pop.
2000s: "Hung Up"
The lead single to 2005's "Confessions on a Dance Floor," Madonna's reinterpretation of ABBA's "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" would add a slice of disco to the 2012 Super Bowl -- although "Music," the second-place choice in the 2000s p! oll, wou ldn't be too shabby, either.
