Madonna spikers sweep 2 in Lyzkowski Memorial
The Madonna University womens volleyball team went two-for-two Friday in the opening round of the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament hosted by Indiana Tech.
The Crusaders improved to 20-4 overall with victories over Campbellsville (Ky.) University, 26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 30-28, and St. Ambrose (Ia.), 25-23, 27-29, 25-22, 25-19.
Nastija Baranovska had a team-best 16 kills in the win over St. Ambrose (11-5), while Samantha Geile and Taylor Dziewit added 14 and 11, respectively.
Setter Evia Prieditis finished with 50 assist-to-kills, while Samantha and Brenna Geile paced the defense with 27 and 23 digs, respectively.
Roxy Duzey and Prieditis also added 14 and 13 digs, respectively, in the win.
In the victory over Campbellsville, junior Emilie Freeman (Lutheran High Westland) recorded a team-high 16 kills, while Samantha Geile added 11.
Prieditis had 40 assists, while Breanna Geile contributed 14 digs.
Daiane Souza led Campbellsville (14-6) with 14 kills.
The Crusaders wrap up tournament play Saturday against Ashford (Ia.) and Indiana University-East.
Ocelots fall out of 1st
On Thursday, Mott Community College knocked host Schoolcraft College out of a tie for first place in the MCCAAs Eastern Conference with a 25-21, 18-25, 25-21, 25-17 victory.
The loss drops the Lady Ocelots to 16-11 overall and 6-2 in the conference, while Mott improves to 12-2 and 5-1.
Oakland CC, ranked No. 18 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, leads the Eastern Conference with a 7-1 record.
