Madonna summonsed by Russian court

Madonna has been summonsed to appear at a court in Russia amid allegations she flouted the country's strict laws over promoting homosexuality.

The Material Girl was hit with a 10 million dollar lawsuit by activists in St Petersburg after performing a concert in the city in August.

Audience members had been handed pink wristbands to show their support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, prompting 10 members of the Union of Russian Citizens, the People's Assembly, and the New Great Russia party to file suit against the singer.

The case came before a judge in St Petersburg this week and Madonna has been asked to travel to Russia to appear at the hearing.

Sky News reports the pop star is unlikely to attend and will be fined in her absence.
