Madonna hoping for Oscar nomination

Madonna has her 'fingers crossed' for an Oscar nomination for her directorial debut 'W.E.'.

The 53-year-old singer - who won a Golden Globe for Best Song for the track 'Masterpiece' from the film - would be excited to receive a nod from the Academy Awards but is not too concerned as she still has a half-time performance at the Super Bowl on February 5 to look forward to.

She told MTV News: 'Well, the Oscars, the nominations are coming out, and fingers crossed, I hope my movie gets nominated for something. I would be really grateful if it did, but if it doesn't, I got the Super Bowl - keep on going.'

Madonna's win at the Golden Globes caused controversy when David Furnish, Sir Elton John's husband, hit out that his partner had not won for the song 'Hello Hello' from 'Gnomeo and Juliet'.

He wrote on Facebook: ' Madonna. Best song???? Fk off!!!

'Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it's narcissism. And her critisism ofGaga shows how desperate she really is. (sic)'

The Oscar nominations are due out later on Tuesday.
