Madonna Sued Over 22-Year-Old Hit

A thief? Me?A thief? Me?

A record label are suing Madonna for allegedly sampling without permission portions of one of their songs. Heres the thing though, the Madonna song purported to contain said samples isnt a new tune but the singers 1990 hit Vogue.

The suit claims that Madonna used elements of Ooh I Love It (Love Break), a 1977 song by Salsoul Orchestra, on her mega hit and that it had been difficult to detect the unauthorised samples till now because producer Richard Shep Pettibone had altered the samples to intentionally hide them.

VMG claim: The unauthorised sampling was deliberately hidden by [Madonna] within Vogue so as to avoid detection. It was only when VMG specifically looked for the sample, with the technology available to it in 2011, that the sampling could be confirmed.

Madonna and producer Shep Pettibone, who, incidentally, worked on Ooh I Love It (Love Break) for VMG, have yet to respond to the allegations.

Vogue was a Billboard No. 1 hit for Madonna in 1990. The single sold in excess of two million physical copies upon release and stands as the best-selling single of that year.
